mooSocial 2.2.1patch2 is available!

We are pleased to let our customers know that mooSocial 2.2.1patch2 is now available. Go our Client Area to download and update your social network sites if you are using mooSocial version 2.2.1. This patch addresses several issues found and caused by changes in Facebook API version 2.4.

Changes in mooSocial 2.2.1patch2:

Fixed compatibility issue with Facebook API 2.4.
Fixed missing language translation for date and time.
Fixed User Group permission for Menu System
Fixed overlapping Site Logo in Admin Dashboard.

Prerequisite: mooSocial 2.2.1

What you should do to successfully install this patch:

Download moosocial-2.2.1patch2.zip
Unzip the downloaded file on your hard drive
Take your site offline using “Take Site Offline” and “Offline Message” in System Settings
Upload all files and folders within 2.2.1 directory to the same location where the previous version was installed so that the new files overwrite existing ones.
Go to System Admin > Manage Gateway, click “Edit” for PayPal Adaptive Payments then click “Save” to save changes.
Clear Global Caches in Admin Home

*** DO make a fully restorable backup of your site before applying this patch.

mooSocial 2.2.0 is here! We are glad to announce the availability of the Final Release. It is better than ever!!! mooSocial is a lighter, faster, mobile-friendly (responsive web design), features packed social network software. Since 2.1.x, there have been a lot of transformations and improvements. Not only that, mooSocial now supports Add-ons which will greatly expand its capabilities. With third parties’ plugins and themes, there will be endless possibilities for your website. With mooSocial, your social network website will be what you have imagined.

Expandable – Ability to add new Add-ons:

It is now possible and easier to create a plugin or theme for mooSocial. In this version, we created a plugin structure so that mooSocial will not just be bound to its code. Plugins and themes can now be added to extend mooSocial’s capability without the need to modify its source code. As version 2.2.0 rolls out, there will be more plugins and themes available for site owners to use to support their business needs.

Code Refactoring – Easier Code Maintainability and Extendability:

An enormous amount of our time was spent on code refactoring in this version. This is one major improvement which position version 2.2.0 apart from all previous versions. By improving code readability and reducing its complexity, we have made mooSocial easier to work with, to maintain and to extend in the future. It now takes less effort to customize or to build custom plugins for mooSocial.

Mobile-Fiendly – Responsive Web Design:

mooSocial is mobile-friendly out of the box. It is designed for optimal viewing experience – reading and navigation – across a wide range of devices (PC and mobile devices) with a minimum of resizing, panning, and scrolling. Mobile-friendliness has become a major ranking factor for Google for search on mobile devices since April 21, 2015. Using mooSocial, your social network site will show up more often on mobile searches.

Lighter and Faster:

mooSocial is now lighter and faster than before. In previous versions, mooSocial have always been known as a light and fast social network software. Even so, it was not good enough for us. We took a step further in this version to make sure mooSocial’s performance is at its best. Numerous of tweaks was done from minifying CSS, HTML, JavaScripts, optimizing images to reducing server requests and improving cache. We had done as much as possible until this point to make mooSocial one of the lightest and fastest social networking software out there.

Improvements:

mooSocial 2.2.0 includes many improvements to enhance user experience when using your mooSocial social network site. These are: (in no particular order)

Social Integration: seamless Single SignOn with Facebook and Google. Signup/Signin using facebook or G+ account is now relatively easy.

Auto Load More: Optionally set to auto load more contents when users scroll down.
SSL Mode: Optionally set to provide a secure browser connection when viewing thru SSL (Secure Socket Layer).
System Mode: Added 2 development modes to help developers debug develop and build Add-ons.
Google’s No CAPTCHA reCAPTCHA: fully support the new version of Google’s reCAPTCHA.
Birthday Reminders: Auto remind friends birthday and option to write on their walls with a few simple clicks.
Editable Posts: Posters can edit text contents of their posts.
Editable Comments: Commenters can edit text contents of their comments.
Comments with Picture: Commenters can add a picture in their comments.
Gender based profile photo: Different default profile photo for male and female
Posts in Group: Group’s posts are shown in Newsfeed for related users.

Emoticons Improvement: Around 80 emoji icons were added to greatly enhance user’s expression when posting status update or commenting.
Youtube API v3 Integration: mooSocial is now compatible with YouTube’s newest API.
Email Templates: Personalize your site’s email with editable, translatable templates with dynamic placeholders (parameters).
Internationalization & Localization: (i18n and l10n) mooSocial fully supports multiple languages. Virtually everything is translatable, from admin back end, user interface, notification messages, categories to widgets title.
Mail System: Improved mail system with mail queue and SSL and TLS support.
Super Admin: Supper Admin can now view restricted profiles, items and perform many functions in the front-end than before.
Tasks: Admin can now set server’s Cron Jobs to run site’s background tasks to run on schedule rather than relying on site’s activities (optional)

mooSocial 2.1.7 – Minor update for YouTube API v3

It is our pleasure to announce the availability of mooSocial 2.1.7. This version addresses the video sharing issue from YouTube. It only includes one minor update but is necessary for site members to share video from YouTube properly. New purchases and current license owners will be able to download this version in mooSocial’s Client Area.

Problem prior to 2.1.7: Shared videos from YouTube appear with broken thumbnails with incorrect title and description. Video’s title and description appear as “https://youtube.com/devicesupport”.

Cause: YouTube recently discontinued support for their API v2 which previous versions of mooSocial are using. Any frameworks which use YouTube API v2 will be affected.

Resolution: Incorporates YouTube API v3 with mooSocial. Version 2.1.7 is now compatible with YouTube newest API.

Notes when upgrading:

This upgrade does not fix previously shared videos. Affected videos can either be left alone or deleted and re-shared.
API key will need to be updated in mooSocial by Site Admin after upgrade. Input for this API key (Google Developer API) can be found in Home > System Admin > System Settings > Integration. Failure to update API key will result to the inability of sharing YouTube’s videos in Video plugin and turning “video share” items in Newsfeeds into “link share” items which will allow video to be viewed on YouTube site rather than directly on Newsfeeds.

mooSocial 2.1.7 is a full installation package. It could be used for new installation or for upgrade. As always, make sure to do a full backup of you live site and do a trial upgrade on your development environment first before upgrading your live site.
